STAGE I LESSONS 1 - 16 ATTITUDE INSTRUMENT FLYING

STAGE I OBJECTIVES: These lessons involve a review of VFR pilot operations, and an introduction to "Attitude Instrument Flying" which consists of instrument scan, instrument interpretation, and positive aircraft control. Although you learn these skills separately, and in a deliberate sequence, the objective of this stage will be your ability to integrate these skills into unified, smooth, positive control responses to maintain any prescribed flight path.

STAGE I COMPLETION STANDARDS:
You will demonstrate positive aircraft control, solely by reference to instruments, in a variety of circumstances. You will maintain specified altitude within 100 feet, assigned heading within 10 degrees, and desired airspeed within 10 knots.

STAGE II LESSONS 17 - 30 INSTRUMENT APPROACHES, HOLDING PATTERNS & REVIEW

STAGE II OBJECTIVES: These lessons are to develop the skills necessary for performing instrument approaches, and are repeated as necessary to gain proficiency.

STAGE II COMPLETION STANDARDS:
You will demonstrate positive aircraft control, solely by reference to instruments, while executing a variety of IFR operations and while conducting instrument approaches. You will maintain specified altitude within 50 feet, assigned heading within 5 degrees, and desired airspeed within 5 knots.

STAGE III LESSONS 31-35 IFR CROSS-COUNTRY

STAGE III OBJECTIVES: These lessons usually require 4 or more flights, and involve Cross-Country IFR under a variety of circumstances, including a PAR approach, if available. The objective is to develop and enhance IFR navigation skills, with emphasis on utilizing the IFR system during flights away from the local area.

STAGE III COMPLETION STANDARDS:
You will demonstrate positive aircraft control, solely by reference to instruments, while executing IFR operations and instrument approaches while on cross-country flights. You will maintain specified altitude within 50 feet, assigned heading within 5 degrees, and desired airspeed within 5 knots, and comply with all departure, enroute and arrival clearances and procedures.

STAGE IV PROCEDURES REVIEW

STAGE IV OBJECTIVES: This stage requires several more flights, and involve local approach procedures, including a PAR approach, if available. The objective is to increase IFR proficiency with an increased workload.

STAGE IV COMPLETION STANDARDS:
You will increase proficiency in all aspects of IFR and VFR operations, by demonstrating positive aircraft control, solely by reference to instruments. You will maintain specified altitude within 50 feet, assigned heading within 5 degrees, desired airspeed within 5 knots, and no greater than 3/4 scale deflection of off-course indications during approaches. These are review lessons which should be repeated as often as necessary, in preparation for the practical test.

IFR QUIZZES 1 - 2 - 3 - 4
