Martha "Marti" Sherwood, 85, of Wilsonville, passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2015. Marti was born Oct. 31, 1930 to Lafe and Alta Sherwood in Lawrence, Kansas. The family moved to Salem in 1935. She graduated from high school in 1948 from Salem Bible Academy, and later that same year married Frank Griffin. They divorced in 1973. In 1984, she moved to the San Francisco Bay area where she worked for a law firm for 15 years, until retiring and moving back to Salem in 1999. Marti was an excellent cook and enjoyed creating new recipes and entertaining family and friends. She created a recipe book filled with her favorite recipes for her children and grandchildren and was quite talented at interior decorating, flower arranging, cake decorating, crafts, and singing. She is survived by her three children: sons, Charles and Jeffrey Griffin, and daughter, Susan Griffin. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren and their spouses, and 10 greatgrandchildren, many nieces, nephews, aunts, and a longtime friend, Dottie Land Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Jewell, Fern, and Maxine; and brothers, Roy, Earl, Kenny, and Charles. In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations in Marti's name to The American Heart Association or Mental Health program of your choice. Marti wishes to thank her physician, Carmen McCallum, of Kaiser Permanente, for all the care she received from her.Memorial services were held at Belcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel at 11:30 a.m., Dec. 11th, 2015. There was a celebration of her life reception after the service at the Best Little Roadhouse on Commercial St. S, at 1 p.m. |
