City drops off truck load of leaves
from street sweeping operations
Leaves are run through 1/2" screen
and placed in raised beds
PVC pipe is laid and connected
to pickle-barrel with water
Holes are drilled in the PVC pipe
for watering
       
Starts are planted and cages
are installed. Water in the barrel
heats up during the day
Plants are watered at night
 with warm water from the
heated barrels
Leaves are arranged for support As the plants grow, stems are
repositioned inside the cages
       
Before long, the tomatoes
grow tall
The cat helps by supervising
the process, and chasing mice
Almost ready for harvest Towering Tomatoes are Tall
       
 
The tomatoes think they are growing
in a warm climate because the
water is warmed by day
Freshly composing soil is naturally
hot, because the composting
continues while tomatoes grow
Water barrels are filled during
the daytime, and water is
delivered to the plants at night

Instructions: For growing Towering Tomatoes:

Approximate Cost

1.  Acquire Leaves, and let them set through the winter,
    then, use a tiller on the leaves to help break them down.

Contact the city and ask to have leaves dropped off

2.  After leaves break down, sift them through a 1/2"
     screen, removing any and all foreign matter.

3.  Place soil in raised beds.

4.  Hook up 30 gallon barrel with watering system with
     1/2" OD PVC pipe

5.  Plant the starts

6.  Build cages for the plants
